But even if your stats are right, it's worth knowing now the impact because unless the direction of travel changes, only central libraries will be fully staffed in the future. Rest set adrift to fail or not, depending on how council support them.Rubymalvoliohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12392627770427362667noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3294267790838788919.post-9521747756396953272017-09-07T16:06:48.416-07:002017-09-07T16:06:48.416-07:00Most likely true but remember community libraries ...Most likely true but remember community libraries are the smallest libraries c.12% of branches but probably less than 5% of lending. It is more important to know about the other 95%. The CIPFA library profiles do give lending data, but it is obvious that CIPFA,the government and now sadly the Taskforce are content for the public to be kept in the dark. Small wonder there is a collapse of confidence in our civil institutions. librariesmatterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10263799848105610565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3294267790838788919.post-41000291996292565652017-09-07T15:33:04.446-07:002017-09-07T15:33:04.446-07:00Agree entirely. This info exists but I think the taskforce is willfully ignoring it because their political masters don't want them to show us what's happening to libraries once they're given to volunteers.Rubymalvoliohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12392627770427362667noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3294267790838788919.post-55887539092279374822017-09-07T15:22:52.877-07:002017-09-07T15:22:52.877-07:00Typo...Physical lending is of course declining nea...Typo...Physical lending is of course declining nearly everywhere. librariesmatterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10263799848105610565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3294267790838788919.post-79089607536346255612017-09-07T15:19:46.799-07:002017-09-07T15:19:46.799-07:00FYI… Hasn’t Walcot ‘library’ given up doing books ...FYI… Hasn’t Walcot ‘library’ given up doing books i.e. having a stock of books to lend?
See www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/15008019
I doubt that Walcot was or is a typical community library.

Some book lending stats for community libraries would be nice but you would also need the lending info. for the council run libraries to compare performance. Physical lending is of course nearly everywhere.

Anyway the Libraries Taskforce apparently doesn’t believe lending is important at all - see their core dataset:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/list-of-contents-for-the-core-dataset-for-libraries/list-of-contents-for-the-libraries-core-dataset-for-england
IMHO the Libraries Taskforce is simply wrong about this - lending is core to what libraries do.
librariesmatterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10263799848105610565noreply@blogger.com
